This will help academia understand the gap in employability skills and support it with industry specific inputs.

The state's Department of Technical Education (DTE), is insisting on an assessment of all final year students of polytechnics starting this year to help technically skilled diploma holders become more employable. It has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with city-based recruitment platform, HireMe, to do both a technical and behavioural assessment of the students.

"This will help academia understand the gap in employability skills and support it with industry specific inputs. The students, especially from rural areas, will also benefit from the job opportunities that will arise," explained Mr H.U. Talawar, director of the department at the launch of the 'Employability Enhancement Initiative' in the city on Monday.

Assessment will be mandatory for all students regardless of whether they are studying in institutes that are government-run, aided or private. "At least one lakh students, including the graduates of 2015 and 2016, will have the option of making use of the platform, " he explained.

Elaborating on the assessment process, Mr Chockalingam Valliappa, founder of HireMee, said a 100-minute proctored computer-based test would be held for students at their respective colleges "Students will be assessed with a 7-digit score for verbal, logic, and quantitative aptitudes along with psychometric/personality, communication, and technical knowledge and skills as well as technical programming. These in-depth free career skill assessment test reports will provide HR recruiters with a comprehensive understanding of each student's strengths and weaknesses, saving them time and effort in screening candidates," he added.

Earlier, HireMee had signed an MoU with the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) to offer its recruitment platform to graduating students of over 11,000 institutions in the country.
