Resume Mistakes that can stop you from securing the Job
Do you think a "perfect" resume is a myth? Think
again. Yes, it might take a few extra hours to craft a resume that hiring
managers will love, but it's about your career and deserves the hard work.
Jobs for freshers
in today's market require many points to be checked, but a good resume
definitely tops the list.
While writing a resume, there are a lot of do’s and don’ts
which needs to be taken care of, but unfortunately, most of the freshers don't know
what to do and what not to do. And as such, you are more prone to make resume
mistakes that you might hamper your chances even before you start.
So it becomes pivotal that you pay equal attention to the
do’s and don’ts so that the recruiter has no chance to put up any negative
point against you, whatsoever. Because at the end of the day, companies that hire students care more
about their resumes than anything else!
After hours of brainstorming, we have come up with a list of tips that can help you do well in 0 and stand out from the crowd:
- An unprofessional mail id
Consider reading this as a recruiter:
Not professional at all!
Here's the thing with mail ids - the great ones may go unnoticed but terrible mail ids catch the attention of recruiters. And of course, this is one of those resume mistakes that can kill your career.
- Too lengthy
Understand that it's a resume, not a book. It doesn't need
to be longer than 2 pages.
After thorough research, we found out that 83% of candidates
create resumes that are longer than 2 pages in hopes of impressing the
recruiters with more content.
A better way to go about it would be to include only those
things which you think will recommend you to the job and make your candidature
stronger.
Also, putting in too much personal information in the resume can hamper the aesthetics of your candidature. Remember; write what the recruiter is interested to read, not about the 200-meter race you won in your 7th grade.
- Too much use of bullet points
Many students we talked to revealed that they took the
"Keeping things in bullet points" to another level by putting
EVERYTHING in bullet points.
That is not required. The best way to avoid another of the
silly mistakes would be to maintain a healthy balance of bullet points and
complete statements.
Yes, bullet points will still give you brownie points, but then again - moderation is the key. To get the optimum results, keep things moderate.
- Grammatical and spelling errors
You can do everything right in your resume and still miss
out on getting the job. Why?
Grammatical mistakes. Nothing can put off a Recruiter more
than a grammatical mistake, no matter how big or small they are. In contrast, a
perfectly written resume can put you ahead of the crowd in no time.
So, pay attention to your commas, the language you use, the tenses and do a quick spelling check before sending in your resume.
