How tier 2 tier / 3 cities can increase their placement count?

Most recruiters hire candidates from top city colleges, leaving out a large number of students from smaller towns. Students from such small towns then face a lot of difficulties in finding the right job for themselves.

Most of them give up.

Currently, there are 7 Tier-1 cities, which include Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Pune. The Tier-2 cities include the likes of Agra, Lucknow, Jaipur, Chandigarh, and Nagpur. The rest of the cities fall under the Tier-3 category.

Thanks to the Government, the tier-2 and tier-3 cities are showing some considerable growth. If paid some attention, these cities have a ton of potential. According to a report by Toppr,Tier-2 and tier-3 cities have potential to house more than 20 universities and a variety of job opportunities on similar lines, which exceed the number of universities that cities like London and New York possess.

Amazing, isn't it?

So why only wish and use terms like "potential"? It's about time we make the tier-2/3 cities equally equipped with resources and recognition that tier-1 cities have.

Talent does not see the "tier" of a place. Let's look into 5 ways how the situation in such cities can be improved:

1. Establish more Colleges/Universities:

The biggest advantage of such cities is space. Since there are no big buildings, the Government can look to approve more colleges and Universities to be set up, so that Students from such cities do not have to travel far for quality Education.

Moreover, more Colleges and Universities would mean more job opportunities for talented students.

2. Wide Range of Courses:

Now say the Government opens "n" number of Colleges/University, but would that be enough?

No.

There have to be a plethora of courses on offer which carry double benefits:

• Students will have multiple options to choose from and won't compromise on their interests

• With the inclusion of different courses like Medical, Arts, Engineering, Law, and administration; various companies from such fields would be interested to hire candidates.

Overall result - More Placements.

3. Better Mentorship:

"A good coach makes a good team," they said, well said.

You can't expect students to be proficient in their core subjects if they aren't mentored properly. Subject matter experts ensure that a student acquires ample knowledge that makes him/her comfortable enough to crack any exam and secure a job.

Get mentors who have "been there and done that". They will take care of quality education.

4. Skill-Focused events:

In a world of cut-throat competition, the budding students need to be aware of the competitions and how to tackle challenges.

Keeping this in mind, various events can be organized in the colleges which focus on skill-enhancement of students that also promote competition.

For example, if you are the head of events in your college, think of organizing a quiz on Basic Java concepts for Computer Science students (say). The winner will be rewarded for sure, but those who participate and score "x" points will get additional incentives in their internal marks.

This will push the students to break the shackles of monotonous mugging up of subjects and engage in something which is practical, boosts their knowledge and competitive at the same time.

5. More Awareness:

Even today, most students depend on only on campus placement to get a job, not knowing that there are great online assessment platform in India for jobs and internships.

And when they fail to secure a job via campus recruitment, they take it as the end of the world and lose their motivation.

This is bad.

Multi-dimensional thinking process needs to be taught to the budding students so that they won't lose hope in tough times and can think of ways to tackle it.
